Bhetala Puzzles

The resolute King Vikramaditya climbed the primeval tree and brought down the cadaver into which Bhethala invoked. No sooner, the King started his journey carrying the corpse on his shoulder the Bhethala in the dead body started speaking to him. Hey King of Kings! Vikramaditya! To ease your journey, I will narrate you a story.

The Bhethala started

Some time ago a king named Chandrapala ruled Vanga kingdom in all peace and prosperity. Chandrapala was a great warrior besides an expert of administration and sharp political strategies. His expertise in all the relevant arenas protected Vanga kingdom and its people from invasions and was almost an untouchable kingdom to the foes and envious. He had three queens Bhamini, Yamini and Kamini. All the three of them were competing with each other in delicateness. People used to praise them as the most sensitive queens that any king had ever married to on earth.

One fine evening, when Chandrapala was romancing with his first queen Bhamini. During the course of his romance with her, his hand went round her head and from there a night queen flower fell on to the lap of Bhamini. A cry immediately came loud out of her throat in all pain. Holding her lap in palms, she fell wayward on the bed. The King Chandrapala noticed her lap to be bleeding, as she was unable to take the impact of the force with which the flower dropped from her head. Chandrapala was stunned for a moment.

Recovering from the shock, he shouted, Who's there?

Bhamini's principal attendant came running, Yes! My Lord!

Chandrapala ordered him, Summon the doctor here immediately."

Yes Master," she went off running out of the room.

How are you feeling My dear Lady?' Chandrapala asked her. Bhamini replied in a feeble voice, It seems I am dying out of pain' she fainted.

Short while from then the doctor entered the room and examined the wound. After applying a medicinal cream on the injury he turned towards the king, My King! There is no life scare to her. Still...as she is more delicate to a flower it would take at least a fortnight for the injury to come back to normal. I will send across medicinal cream regularly. Let that be applied on the injury and bandaged and left the place.

It took about a week for Chandrapala to recover from the shock psychologically. As Bhamini was sick, he went to see the second queen Yamini.

On seeing the King, Yamini sarcastically said, How come the King had gone mercy on me after so long?'

You are my beloved wife and queen Yamini. I am sorry for not being able to see you. Pardon me', Chandrapala hugged her and tried to persuade.

No My Lord! Do not try to dramatise the situation. You are more caring for them; hence, you spend more time with the other two queens', Yamini posed as if she was annoyed.

Queen! If they both happen to be my eyes, you are my life.' Chandrapala did not allow her to speak anymore and both immersed into deep love.

A little while later, Chandrapala and Yamini went out for a stroll in to the garden in the palace. It was a full moon night and the environment was erotic. King and Queen were in all pleasure. It so happened suddenly, that a cool breeze went over them. Along with the breeze veil of the queen fell off. Yamini gave out a cry and fainted falling down. Chandrapala somehow managed to hold her safely from direct fall and laid her slowly on the grass underneath. The royal doctor was rushed to the spot. Examining the Queen, the doctor stunned. She developed rashes on being exposed to the moonlight when her veil went off her head. He could only express the reason for her sickness and give a medicine' and leave the place.

Yamini was carried to her special room in the palace. Chandrapala stayed with her for about four days.

A week later from then, Chandrapala wished to see his youngest queen Kamini. Immediately he rose and walked towards Kamini's palace. Unlike the other two queens, Kamini came to receive him and took him to her private room with all love and affection. Chandrapala was overwhelmed with joy on her reaction to his visit. After taking a long shower of each other's love, they went on to the terrace to enjoy a cool breeze. They were walking all round the terrace. They heard someone pounding paddy in a mortar to make rice with a wooden pestle. Immediately Kamini's palms blistered.

As usual the royal doctor was rushed for treatment...

Stopping there, Bhethala asked, Hey! King! Vikramaditya! Now tell me. Who is the most sensitive and delicate among the three queens of Chandrapala?

What is there to think much about for deciding this, Vikramaditya replied, the sufferings of Bhamini were due to the fall of a flower on the lap and that of Yamini for exposing to moonlight. These two queens were pained with direct impact. It was a different case with Kamini. She developed scorches on palms just on hearing the sounds of paddy pounding. Therefore, Kamini is the most delicate and sensitive queen.

Bhethala convinced with Vikramaditya's reply and zoomed off with the corpse back to the treetop.
